| 2006-12-11 Back from BeGeistert 017 |
|
The first Italian edition of the BeGeistert is over and, as any BeGeistert, it has been a wonderful experience. The distance (or diffidence?) has keep many usual faces away, but the classic BeGeistert mix of discussion, coding, bugfixing, show-offs, great Italian food, beer, coffe, touristic trips, jokes, mysterious events, bad luck, and close encounters of the third kind, was still there. You can see my (few as usual) photos here, but you can expect a lot more! Update: pictures from Andrea Bernardi and Giuseppe Gargaro's report (Babelfish) and pictures. Add a comment |

My blog got his new look and feel over a year ago, but I finished the last bits only today - the software pages. I also put in them some info on the future of my apps. Add a comment |

This time, they tried to spam in my blog using vBullettin forums' code. Funny.

| 2006-11-14 My congratulations to spammers |
|
As you can see, my comment system does not require any authentication, or typing stupid things to post your comments. These were born as countermeasures to spammers. I didn't think they would reach my blog, since it is not powered by any popular CMS like PhpNuke. But it looks like that the spam robots are smarter than I thought, and they put some spam even on my blog, the kind that tries to download dialers on your PC via malicious HTML code. But they weren't harmful because HTML just does not work on my comments :-) It was a single incident so I'm not worried, and I will not change my comments system for now. I just have to add a quicker way to delete this spam via my administration interface ;-) Update: just the time to update the blog engine, and I was able to test it. Thank you spammers, now I know it works ;-) Ok, next time I will use the PHP's strip_tags() function. Add a comment |
| 2006-11-05 ZETA on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi1536 |
The Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi1536 is powered by a dual core Intel Core Duo T2300E at 1,66 GHz, 1 Gb of RAM, an ATI Radeon X1400 128 Mb, and an 80 Gb SATA hard disk. I had this notebook on my desk for some days, and of course I wanted to test it with ZETA. I could not install it because the computer is not mine, so I tried the ZETA 1.21 Live CD. Unfortunately, ZETA turned out to be completely unuseable on this notebook.

| 2006-11-03 BeGeistert 017: "Taste of Italy" |
|
BeGeistert 017 has been announced! This time it will be held in Milan, that's 20 kilometers from my home ;-) We ItBUG members are proud to be the hosts of such an important event for the international BeOS community. We'll do our best to give you the best experience! If you have any question, just ask, we'll be happy to help you! Besides the usual BeGeistert activities (and fun), you'll also have the chance to appreciate some of the dishes of the Italian tradition. Attendance will cost 90 €. For more details and registration, see the BeGeistert web site. A curiosity: BeGeistert 013 was dubbed "The lucky number" because in the north European and American tradition 13 is a lucky number, but in Italy 17 is an unlucky number! But since the 13 was a really unlucky BeGeistert (see Charlie's and Bernd's accidents), we can hope this one will be lucky :-) Add a comment |

Now you can write your comments to my news! This is another function of my blog that was sitting somewhere on my hard drive, now it's online for the world to see. Next: AtomoCAD status update! Add a comment |

2006-10-20 The Biffuz Blog Engine and the |
|
My blog finally uses a real database! This has been sitting on my hard drive for quite some time, and now I have decided it was time to complete it and put it online. Slowly, I'm creating a simple Content Management System, wich I call the Biffuz Blog Engine :-) It is written in PHP and MySQL, but not because I like them, it is just because that's what my host has to offer. The second news is about my Dual Pentium II, which has become a Dual Pentium III ! Now with 2 * 300 MHz extra it is a lot snappier with Zeta (these SVG icons are cool, but they suck a lot of CPU power, I would like an option to disable them). But this is just the first step, I planned many more upgrades to completely revolutionize my computers. Also, my "17 operating systems project" has drowned, it turned out that those systems are either too buggy or too stupid. I'll stuck with VMWare for that. Another news is about the Borland programming products: you can now download from here the free editions of C++Builder and Delphi, which have been blessed with the revered Turbo name! You can also find the old, original Turbo C++ and Turbo Pascal for DOS! Add a comment |
| 2006-09-19 A new cellphone, and a new OS |
|
I'm going to add another OS to my list, and this is Symbian 8.0, the OS that powers my new Nokia 6680. I had to get it because my not-so-old SonyEricsson T630 has died without reason (one of the worst purchases I ever did, I admit). I got this Nokia because you can program on this OS, you can use it as MP3 player, you can surf the net at 384 kbps, and you can get a GPS antenna and use it as a navigator. Note: just because I'm now able to write a program for Symbian, you shouldn't expect a porting of AtomoCAD, so please don't ask :-) Add a comment |
| 2006-09-13 Counter lost :-( |
|
For some unexpicable reason, my little PHP counter has lost his data file :-( Since there's no way for me to get the count back, I've to start from 0 again. The same happened to the AtomoCAD's site counter. This is maybe the fourth time I lose my counter, how do I reach the millions this way? And how could I forgot to put an Haiku button in my blog? | 2006-03-02 2 processors, 5 hard disks, 17 operating systems |
|
Have you ever thought on a computer with 2 processors, 5 hard disks, and 17 operating systems? Well, that's exactly what I'm working on! The list of operating systems I wish to put in there currently includes: BeOS, FreeBSD, FreeDOS, Haiku, Linux (still have to choose a distro), Minix, MS-DOS, OS/2 Warp, QNX, ReactOS, SkyOS, Solaris, Syllable, Windows 3.1, Windows 98, Windows XP, and of course Zeta. I made my plans and I'm pretty sure that everything should work fine. In the meantime, I just received a new hard disk for my main computer. It's a Seagate Cheetah 15k.4, with a speed of 142 Mb/s and an average random access time of 3.8 ms is probably the fastest drive in existance today! With this new beast, I updated the 2-days-old File-To-Resource adding the support for different resource types, and it's now at version 1.1, get it! And if you need a new USB keydrive, Microsoft is giving them away. Add a comment |

A little tool for you BeOS developer. filetores and restofile are two small commands wich lets you integrate a binary file into a resource file, or an executable. It's also open source, so what are you waiting for? Go get it!

| 2006-02-12 Borland sells Delphi |
|
This has been a sad year for computing. First, the death of the Mac. Then, the demise of the Pentium brand. Now, Borland sells its development products. A lot of people, including me, grown up on Borland's tools: Turbo Pascal and Turbo C++, back in the DOS days, with their stunning IDEs introduced some of the features we are used to today, like syntax coloring and visual debugger. Then, Delphi and C++Builder came to light, the first visual and object-oriented IDEs to make real Windows software (unlike Microsoft Visual Basic wich requires its own libraries). Who's next?
